Laner Muchin Partner Heather Becker Recently Appeared on WBBM Noon Business Hour to Discuss, "Coronavirus and the Workplace: How Managers Navigate Flu Season"
Chicago, IL - Laner Muchin Partner Heather Becker recently appeared on WBBM Noon Business Hour Chicago to discuss, "Coronavirus and the Workplace: How Managers Navigate Flu Season."
Employers are on high alert for how best to keep employees healthy given that the Coronavirus has now spread to more than 70 countries, including the U.S. The threat of a virus spreading at work raises a perennial issue: What can a manager ask employees to do when they're showing signs of being sick? Or when their employees are worried about being exposed to a contagious illness?
Becker discussed the need for open communication between managers and their employees in addition to monitoring the CDC for additional updates and recommendations.
In addition, several business have prohibited all non-essential business trips domestically and abroad. Others have pulled out of conferences and conventions. And some have decided employees should work from home.
Becker advises employers on a broad range of day-to-day legal issues, including areas such as FMLA and ADA compliance. She also drafts employment policies and procedures, including PTO and sick leave policies and guidelines for other types of flexible working arrangements. Most recently, she has been working closely with many of her clients on the steps that employers should take to mitigate the potential for Coronavirus in the workplace and in developing strategy plans for if and when the Coronavirus impacts the workforce.
