West Chicago, IL – Laner Muchin attorneys Gary Wincek and Christina Jaremus presented, “Marijuana in the Workplace,” to the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce on August 28, 2019.
The presentation covered pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug testing following the passage of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act (the “Cannabis Act”), which takes effect in Illinois on January 1, 2020. The presentation also sought to help employer’s navigate between keeping their workplaces safe and drug-free after cannabis is legal for recreational purposes on January 1, while at the same time respecting employee rights to engage in lawful activity outside of the workplace.
Jaremus offers experience defending public and private sector employers against claims arising out of various state and federal laws, including but not limited to: Title VII, Section 1983, ADA, the ADEA, Title IX, the Illinois Human Rights Act, the Public Employee Safety Employee Benefits Act, and the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.
Wincek focuses his practice on representing private sector employers in discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims before state agencies, being the employer spokesperson and advisor in union collective bargaining negotiations, and defending clients in arbitration hearings under union agreements.
